Why categories matter at estate sales
Estate liquidators usually tag a few featured categories per sale — those tags tell you what the household actually contained and what's worth driving for. A sale tagged "fine furniture, sterling, oriental rugs" suggests an estate of some scale, with prices to match. A sale tagged "tools, garage, kitchenware" points toward a smaller liquidation with strong potential for resellers and bargain hunters. Browsing by category lets you skip the guesswork.
Some categories — sterling silver, mid-century modern, signed art, and vintage jewelry in particular — sell extremely fast and are usually gone within the first hour of day one. Others (kitchenware, books, garden, and most household goods) hold through to day three at half price. If you're optimizing for value rather than rarity, the second group is where the best per-dollar finds live.
