Where the best estate sales happen
Every region has a personality. The Northeast — particularly Connecticut, Massachusetts, and the lower Hudson Valley — turns up an unusual concentration of formal antiques, English silver, and early American case furniture, often from estates that have been in the same family for three or four generations. The Pacific Northwest and Northern California are mid-century strongholds; if you're hunting for Heywood-Wakefield, Knoll, or original Eames pieces, this is where the supply lives. The Southeast — especially the Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee — is rich in regional pottery, folk art, and farm-and-tool estates with surprisingly good prices.
Texas, Oklahoma, and the Plains states are sleeper markets. Estate sales there often include western art, vintage advertising, ranch-era furniture, and the occasional remarkable jewelry collection at a price that would be three times higher in a coastal city. The Mountain West is heavy on outdoor and sporting estates: vintage Pendleton, leather goods, fly-fishing collections, and lodge furniture. Pick your state to see what's running this weekend.
